Go Woke, Go Broke
Remember when we told you that most daily newspapers in South Dakota were NOT owned by South Dakotans?
Well you might be interested in this story about Washington, DC-based Gannett Company. Gannett publishes the far-left USA Today along with 250-plus local papers, including the Sioux Falls Argus Leader.
Gannett, America’s largest newspaper chain, is cutting back on telling its readers what to think due to what must be an alarming number of subscription cancellations.
“Readers don’t want us to tell them what to think,” said the Gannett editors, according to the far-left Washington Post (an outlet that knows all about telling its readers what to think). “They don’t believe we have the expertise to tell anyone what to think on most issues. They perceive us as having a biased agenda.” (Nolte)
Lest you mistake this quote for a glimmer of self-awareness, here’s the real bottom line: According to the Post, Gannett lost $135 million last year. People likely don’t want to pay for lies and propaganda. As John Nolte writes in the article:
The truth is that Americans are more news savvy than ever before. We are on to these liars and how they rig the game. Gannett trying to claim the opposite is just more propaganda.
If you think the Argus Leader does not have “a biased agenda” and provides the information you want without telling you what to think, keep paying for a subscription. But if you have the feeling that you are being coached on what to think and how to think about it, spend your money and attention elsewhere.
